…become like little children

Christmas day. What an absolutely glorious day!  I saw an example of what Jesus meant when He talked about becoming like little children to enter the kingdom of Heaven, and I want to appreciate God’s gift of salvation the way my just turned eleven-years-old granddaughter reacted to one of her gifts.

Bella opened a huge box, which in turn contained another box, then another and another until all that was left was a small rectangular box, and when Bella saw what it was, she burst into tears. She looked at it again, covered her face, flapped her hands and cried even more, then she jumped up and threw her arms around her mother’s neck, cried some more and then ran to her father and threw her arms around his waist and cried even more. She was absolutely overcome with emotion and gratitude.

What present that caused this overwhelming emotion? It was an i-Pad mini. Bella had been saving to buy one, and was half-way to having enough money. But Mum and Dad, because of their love for their little girl, decided to surprise her and give her one for Christmas. All the money she had saved now became an added bonus to spend however she wished.

Sitting next to Bella as I watched her excitement and joy grow, it made me realise that this was the reaction we should have about our salvation. Because of His great love for us, God, King Eternal, Creator and sustainer of the universe, gave us His Son, who willingly died on the cross so we can have eternal life. Sometimes, I think we take too casual a view of our salvation.

I want to be more like Bella; I want to be so overcome with joy and gratitude for this gift of love from my Heavenly Father, that I can’t contain it. I want to be like a child given the gift for Christmas that they wanted more than anything .

hugs

Thanks Sharla, I’ve been checking your blog now and then when you left a comment on DJ’s blog so I figured, “Hey, follow that girl.” LOL it’s easier to be notified when you post :-)

This reminds me of my own Christmas… At the age of 15, I can still act like an even littler kid than I actually am. My parents also did the box-in-a-box-in-a-box-in-a-box thing to me, eventually ending up with just a slip of paper. This is probably a good thing, as my present, who weighs 500kg and is a large and excitable horse, would have been quite hard to wrap. My reaction was just like Bella’s. Only it was my parents who ended up crying. :)
Thank you for the thought-provoking post. I should have been squealing and sobbing for joy over my salvation, too.

Come on in and sit a spell, we can chat.
