The absurdity of his situation suddenly hit him. Here he was at the manor – Meerkat Manor they’d dubbed it because someone had to be on guard 24/7. And now it was his turn to perch on top of the statue of the lion. Just a mere cat when you got down to it. But despite the meerkat jokes, this was serious business.
Rumours of the resistance gaining strength persisted and for the last six months had grown. Everyone was hopeful, but everyone also knew the chances of them succeeding and freeing the country, were slim – very slim. But, as the saying goes, “hope springs eternal.”
He felt powerful, invincible, and his heart pounded at the thought of what it would be like if the statue suddenly came alive.
His head snapped up. There it was! The signal fire! Then another, and another, and another.
Freedom was theirs!
