Moving Day – Scribe’s Cave #7

The Cave Mistress posted a new photo prompt. You can check out the rules of the game here. Come on, don’t be shy – join in. My rather late story begins after the photo.

Old Barn

“We’re moving.” Monty said dragging suitcases out of the glove box. “Everyone pack and be ready in five minutes.”

“Why Papa?” the triplets chorused.

“Never mind why, just do it.”

“Monty,” his wife scolded, kissing his nose, “they’re not babies, just tell them.”

Monty looked as though he was going to argue, then sighed, “we’re moving because the Garter family are moving in.”

The triplets squeaked in fright and huddled under their mother’s apron; they knew garter snake families and field mice families don’t live harmoniously together.

“Cheer up my darlings, we’re moving to a lovely two-storey house surrounded by trees. It will be wonderful.” Jessica hugged her children. “Now run along and pack your jackets and bed socks, Daddy wants to leave as soon as possible.”

With more squeaks, this time squeaks of delight, the triplets scampered up to their room in the roof to pack their things.

    • Lyn says:

Well, they’ll have plenty of rooms to choose from, but my guess is they’ll choose the attic🙂 Thank you for reading, I’m glad you enjoyed it.

Come on in and sit a spell, we can chat.
